MOC Description

This locomotive is a classic Baldwin 2-6-6-2. Built in 1926, it has been transferred around to many companies with many different modifications. For this build, I focused on the 1939/present day version of the locomotive. Originally it ran as #7 for the Ostrander Railway and Timber Co., then as #5 for Weyerhaeuser, then #11 for Kosmos Timber Co., then finally stayed #11 when Kosmos renamed to The U.S. Plywood Corp. The model is 8-wide and 1:48 scale.

Union Pacific FEF-3 #844 – The Living Legend
MOCID:

MOC Theme:

MOC Description

Union Pacific FEF-3 #844 – The Living Legend. Manufactured by the American Locomotive Company and delivered to UP in 1944, #844 was the last steam locomotive received by UP and the only steam locomotive of any American Class 1 railroad that has never been struck from the roster. Throughout her revenue career, she headed express freight, fast mail, and the most prestigious passenger trains of the central high plains and mountainous west. Over time she has received several modifications and upgrades, this build captures her high-speed passenger service essence and models her as she would have appeared in April of 1949 – oil burning, with a Sellers exhaust steam injector and painted in the famous two-tone gray.

The model is 8-wide and 1:48 scale. It is powered by two L power function motors in a 1:1 gear ratio so that she has both high tractive effort and can travel at high speed. The tender is fitted with a battery pack, a power functions control switch and two V2 IR receivers with one dedicated to each motor.
